The feed has been awfully quiet lately… it’s been way too long since the last episode of Geek Cred—but even worse than the lack of new episodes recently has been my lack of communication with you, my faithful, supportive listeners.
You might have noticed an inconsistent release schedule over the past months, and finally, an unannounced hiatus. Once again, my old friend Murphy and his freaking law reared his ugly head… hate that guy!
I don’t usually like to talk too much about my personal life—because for one, it’s called “personal” for a reason, but even more so because you’re probably not here to listen to me—but over the past few months I have been riding a bit of an up and down roller coaster due to some chronic health issues. It’s nothing remotely life threatening, but much to my frustration, it has done enough to keep me away from doing what I love most, and that’s podcasting, because I refuse to compromise on the quality of the show. It has reached the point that I will actually be having corrective surgery, which hopes to alleviate some of these problems.
Sometimes “real life” gets in the way, but let me make this abundantly clear: Geek Cred has most definitely not podfaded. This hiatus has been merely temporary, but—fingers crossed—will come to and end soon, better late than never, with Geek Cred making its return, hopefully bigger, better, faster than before.
Until then… geek on!

I will continue to podcast—because you’ll have to pry that microphone from my cold dead hands!—but I recently launched a new creative endeavor, in addition to Geek Cred: a personal blog/website over at http://www.steveriekeberg.com. There you will be able to get a more personal “behind the scenes” look at me and read my thoughts, musings, rants, and reviews on everything that interests me, from podcasting, technology, science fiction, gaming, culture, writing, and more. Check it out, and if you like what you read, please leave a comment over there!

Celebrate the holiday season with “A Geek Christmas Story”, a special holiday treat from Geek Cred and Friends in Tech.
“Mattie Stevens, a young boy of the early 80’s, dreams of owning a Commodore 64. He sets out to convince everyone this is the perfect gift. But, along the way runs into opposition from his parents and everyone around him including old Santa Claus”
Until Geek Cred returns soon, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, Happy Winter Solstice–whatever you celebrate, may you have a safe, and of course geeky holiday!

My mind is still buzzing after having such a great time at PodCampAZ that it’s hard to concisely articulate my feelings, but to describe it in one word: AMAZING. Everyone was so friendly, I (re)connected with people, and made many great new friends. I made a bit of a roadtrip with my Southern California friends and fellow podcasters Douglas E. Welch and Megan Enloe to Phoenix.
I actually had the privilege of speaking, and a special thank you to those of you who attended my session on Sunday morning “The Art of the Interview”–and for those of you that missed it, I hope to have audio of it up soon. Thanks to our host, the University of Advancing Technology, and all the sponsors that made it possible. Most of all, huge thanks to Evo Terra, Brent Spore, and the rest of the organizers and volunteers, who worked tirelessly, above and beyond, to make PodCampAZ such an amazing event. PodCampAZ is, in my opinion, one of the premiere new media conferences on the planet. Apparently some of the best things in life do come for free!

I hope you all had a great holiday season and happy new year. After taking a break myself for the holidays, I’d planned to be bringing you the first Geek Cred of 2008 today, but things just aren’t working out. Since Christmas I’ve been battling a severe respiratory and sinus infection that has hit me like a train and left me with little voice. I’m finally on the up swing, but its kept me from working on the show, so I have nothing to release for you today. Never fear, though! Geek Cred will return for the first episode of 2008 next week. Stay tuned, this is going to be a great year!
